What is i.nez?
i.nez – international network for development cooperation in the field of mental health i.nez was founded in 2000. The aim of i.nez is to intensify the exchange of experience with developing countries (South-South cooperation) and to promote projects in the field of mental health.
The problem
Over half a billion of the world’s population suffer from neuropsychiatric disorders or alcohol or drug addiction; the majority of sufferers live in developing countries. However, most patients do not receive the appropriate treatment and care, and many are stigmatized, prejudiced and marginalized. This results in serious psychological, physical, social and economic damage.

Action at ground level is necessary, concrete help is necessary and possible. Human, professional and material assistance promotes and enriches the giving and receiving partners.
The approach
The focus of the support is primarily on the international and interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and experience. The prevention of psychiThe aim is to improve the treatment and care of mentally ill people. This is to be supported by further training measures, participation in and organization of specialist conferences and the mutual exchange of information between employees in the field of psychiatric care. In addition, local projects are to be supported in selected cases. Relationships should be characterized by exchange: everyone can learn from the other. South-South cooperation is to be promoted and supported.
